Las bobinas de carga inalámbrica generan un campo electromagnético alterno que se utiliza para transferir energía de forma inductiva a otras bobinas colocadas en paralelo y muy cerca. La energía se utiliza para cargar baterías o hacer funcionar el dispositivo que recibe la energía. Las bobinas pueden diseñarse como receptores, transmisores o de doble propósito, teniendo bobinas simples o múltiples y múltiples capas de devanados. Se clasifican por su inductancia, frecuencia de autorresonancia, corriente de saturación y factor Q a una frecuencia determinada.
