Los transistores bipolares de puerta aislada (IGBT) son dispositivos semiconductores de potencia de tres terminales que se utilizan principalmente como interruptores electrónicos que combinan alta eficiencia y conmutación rápida. Como módulos, los IGBT están configurados como puentes asimétricos, chopper de refuerzo, reducción y frenado, puente completo, inversores de tres niveles y trifásicos. Algunos tienen termistores NTC incorporados para controlar la temperatura. Los módulos IGBT se diferencian por la potencia máxima, la corriente del colector, el voltaje de ruptura del emisor-colector y la configuración.
